'22 HOWELL NJ REBEL VECCHIARELLI FINISHES HS CAREER WITH BIG NUMBERS AND EVEN BIGGER OPPORTUNITIES
HOWELL, NJ - Nick Vecchiarelli excelled on offense, defense and special teams for the Howell Rebels. “Vecc” is high on both the offensive and defensive statistical leader boards in the state of New Jersey – no easy feat. The 6’0” 195 lbs athlete was All Division in 2020 and looks to be headed for even bigger honors in 2021.
Vecchiarelli made an impact all over the field this season. His bone jarring hits and lofty numbers from safety are simply incredible. In 10 games, Vecchiarelli notched 97 total tackles! Four of those were for losses. He had a sack and two forced fumbles. He broke up 5 passes and had two interceptions.
On offense, Nick made his presence felt with 52 catches for 725 yards. He was a chain mover, slant route runner and over the middle specialist. Vecchiarelli even has a 72 yard TD pass on his stat sheet this year. That play was a little bubble route from slot that “Vecc” caught behind the QB and line of scrimmage. He was immediately under pressure, side stepped the rush and launched a beauty 40 yards in the air for what was a catch and run for 72 in total. Just one play but it depicts such awareness and skill.
Note: According to Max Preps - Vecchiarelli’s receptions (52) put him at 7th in the entire state and his tackles (97) put him at 5th in the state for all defensive backs and 32nd overall.
“Nick plays the game with a high motor and is really impressive," said Pat Marzo, GoMVB Analyst. "I watched all of his film and got to see him play in person as well. While I think he is a terrific receiver, this athlete was born to play college safety. He hits, he leads, he makes the big play and he is so fast to the football. He’s a strong 195 lbs and I see him as a 215 pounder once he hits a college weight room. Vecchiarelli can cover the speed guys but has the strength to cover the tight ends as well. He is a can’t miss kid."
Vecchiarelli has been offered a scholarship to Ave Maria University (NAIA) Sun Conference. It was a target school of Nick’s down in Florida. “Vecc” has also been courted, since his season has been so impressive, by some local and tri state D1 programs with Monmouth being the latest to have him for a game day visit.
Coincidentally Monmouth’s All Division and star defensive back, Eddie Morales, also put up huge numbers for Howell HS back in 2018.
