3” Further Than Average NFL Player

Similar to the vertical jump, the broad jump is a measure of explosiveness, but also lower body strength. The ability to explode from a standing position, but still maintain balance and control can give players an advantage especially in one-on-one battles. 1

At a recent Hun School of Princeton Team Combine, Francesco “Cheech” Barone led all players with a 126” (10’6”) broad jump, 3” further than the average NFL player. 2

“It’s an indicator of explosive ability and the ‘immeasurable’ closing steps - can’t time that. So, they use broad and vertical to gauge it,” commented Coach Pat of GoMVB. “So, if Cheech is 4 steps away from a corner route, coaches would have confidence that he would ‘get that ball’ - a kid with the exact same ability as Cheech, but a respectable 112” broad jump is less likely to get the same interception or pass break up,” added Marzo.

Currently, Cheech, ranked the 11th top DB in NJ by Prep RedZone, is a graduating ’22 and has four D1 FBS offers, and eight D1 FCS offers.
