NJ ‘24 Lacrosse Goalie Antonio Santana Hoping to Be Cornerstone of Braves’ Build
Manalapan, NJ: With Manalapan being a newer high school program, it has allowed many underclassmen to gain valuable varsity experience at a young age. 2024 goalie, Antonio Santana, is one of those fortunate players.
The sophomore played a pivotal part in the 7-8 inaugural Manalapan campaign in 2021 and is set to help the team soar in 2022 with all of the underclassmen a year older.
Santana split time last season but played a key role in some program-building victories. He had 14 saves in an 11-10 win over Point Pleasant Boro, and then came back a week later and shut down St. John Vianney in a 6-4 triumph. Santana was in net for the best run of the 2021 campaign, when the Braves won three of four in 10 days.
As Antonio continues to develop his fundamentals as a goalkeeper, he has relied on his natural athleticism and instincts to make saves. Training with goalies like Rutgers All-American, Colin Kirst, has helped him to refine his craft and find his comfort zone in the cage. His drive to be great will prove to be a huge benefit to any program in the future, including his current Manalapan team.
Off the field, Santana has worked hard in the classroom. He has a 3.0 GPA and won the January 2022 Student of the Month award.
Here is a scouting report on Santana:
“I saw him play a couple times in that run Manalapan had in mid-May. Santana kept them in the game against Point Boro, and made some pivotal saves to get them the win. He is young, so he is still learning, but that was a game that showcased how good he can be.
“I think this team is going to be pretty good over the next couple years, and Santana could be key to that growth.”
At 5-11, 175 pounds, the 15-year-old is going to grow over the next few years just as Manalapan does. Watch out for this team, and Santana, in 2024, as the Braves build towards dominance in the Shore Conference.
