Manalapan NJ '24 Defense/Long Stick Aidan Wilmot Ready to Roll with Braves
Manalapan, NJ: When you take a look at the Manalapan (NJ) boys' lacrosse roster, you will see that it is filled with underclassmen.
That should mean the team is going to grow into a force together over the coming few seasons.
Sophomore defenseman/long stick midfielder, Aidan Wilmot, is going to be play a crucial role in this build.
The Class of 2024 player is one of 19 sophomores and juniors helping build this program from the ground up, and there is already a very good base: the Braves went 7-8 in the COVID-19 shortened 2021 campaign and will be looking for more in 2022.
Wilmot was in the middle of the field last year winning ground balls and breaking up opposing team attacks, as well as getting the ball moving the other way. After a successful freshman campaign, Wilmot should see big improvements as the Shore Conference side continues its ascent to the top of the league standings.
As good as Wilmot has been on the field, though, he is a superstar in the classroom: Wilmot made the All-Academic team with the highest GPA of any player recognized (4.8), which shows that he is intelligent and a very hard worker.
One lacrosse analyst had this to say about Aidan: "Aidan has quickly become one of the biggest playmakers on the field, even as a sophomore. His aggressiveness, size, speed, stick check accuracy, and eagerness to pick up the ground ball and push transition provides momentum-shifting early offense opportunities for the Braves. His hunger for learning combined with a consistent work ethic will prove to move him towards the upper echelon of dominant defenders in the Shore Conference of NJ.”
Wilmot is already 5-11, 185 pounds at 16, with a 6-4.5 wingspan: those numbers should all increase over the coming years, as he grows into his body and continues his work in the weight room.
