NJ #20 Best Player - 3 Star Hun Raider ‘23 DL Dante Barone Has Huge Week on and off Football Field
Manalapan, NJ: It’s all been coming up aces lately for Hun School defensive lineman/tight end Dante Barone.
The soon-to-be rising senior now has 11 Division 1 offers on the table, including three from Power 5 teams. Barone was recently ranked as a three-star recruit by both 24/7 and Rivals.
But it gets even better than that … Barone is now ranked as the 20th Best Player in New Jersey for the Class of 2023, and the 122nd best defensive lineman in the country. He is one of three Hun School players in his class to be a top 20 player in NJ.
Barone also recently teamed up with fellow lineman Owen Wafle on the track and field team; the duo came home from the 2022 Mercer County Relay meet as champions in the shot put with a total combined distance of 91.11. Barone accounted for 44.4 feet of that distance, after just picking up the event less than a month ago for the Raiders.
It just goes to show how athletic the 6-3, 270-pound junior is.
In the classroom, Barone just ended his year with a 4.57 GPA, raising his cumulative GPA to a 4.43. He also posted a 1390 SAT score on the first try, resulting in multiple Ivy League institutions vying for Barone.

“There are some very good players at Hun on both sides of the ball, but Barone stands out on defense. He is a freak athlete, with a combination of size, speed, and strength that you do not often see at the high school level. He’s super intelligent as well and is able to pick up new schemes very quickly.”
“Barone is going to keep getting bigger, quicker, and stronger over the summer, he’s going to be very hard to stop in the fall. Whoever gets him at the next level is getting a star.”
With the nationally ranked Hun team returning so much firepower for 2022, this could be a season to remember for Barone and the Raiders. And as one of their 3 captains, he is expected to lead the dominant defense in the fall and should be a fierce weapon for Todd Smith’s offense.
