NJ Football St. John Vianney Class of ‘24 WR Joseph Marcello Ready to Speed into Fall
Morganville, NJ: While the St. John Vianney football team didn’t exactly crush it in 2021 in the Shore Conference outside of the Freedom Division, one of its players certainly did, on AND off the field.
Class of 2024 wide receiver Joseph Marcello has posted some eye-popping numbers on the field, in the classroom, and especially on the practice/workout field, and will go into his junior year with some hype surrounding him.
Much of that has to do with his workout numbers. Marcello ran a laser verified 4.58 40 time in his sophomore campaign, and he has run close to a 4.5 on the coach’s stopwatch. That number is going surely going to improve as a result of the pre-season strength and conditioning work he puts in. Marcello, who was 5-11, 180 pounds as a 15-year-old, was already benching 275 pounds and squatting over 400 pounds as a sophomore, so you know those numbers will continue to climb.
Marcello is just one of those kids who strives to get better in every facet of his life. In the classroom, he has a 3.6 GPA, and that should improve when his sophomore grades settle.
Simply put, he is a winner.
Here is what one Shore Conference coach said about his game:
“That team only won three games in 2021 but lost four games by a touchdown or less. They will be better in 2022, and this kid is going to be a major reason. They have so many key players back. Marcello is a weapon on offense. He is going to burn a lot of defenses in the fall. I think he is going to be key in the running game as well. He is just so fast, and elusive, so he might be able to take some handoffs and go the distance.
“I think you are going to see him returning some kicks for scores too. If he can put up four or five more scores, they go from 3-7 to 6-4 this year. He is some player.”
